Pharmacists have been accused of running a misleading scare campaign to force the government to compensate them for cuts to the price of common medicines.
The Consumer Health Forum, Choice, Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) and some of the country's top health economists say Australia still pays too much for drugs and pharmacists should not be paid inflated subsidies through high medication costs.
"We are paying some of the highest prices in the world for some medications, more than double what New Zealand and the UK pay," Consumer Health Forum chief executive Carol Bennett said.
